S2S 2021 Winners
SkateS2Scholars, our in-house scholarship program, understands how difficult college can be and is dedicated to helping players reach their potential. This year we have 5 amazing students being awarded:
2021 Scholarship Winners
S2S is awarding a total of $4,750 to the following hockey players:
Gavin Belton – Gavin attended Providence High School and is graduating from Hoosac Preparatory
School with a 3.4 GPA. At the Hoosac School, Gavin received the prestigious President’s Award, the
English Excellence Award, and the Thoreau Award for Environmental Consciousness. He will be
attending Appalachian State University in the fall as a major in Ecology, Evolution & Environmental
Biology working towards a career in Wildlife Recreational Management. Gavin played in the Extreme
Ice Metro program, Jr Checkers, Charlotte Rush, and in the NEPSAC league for the Hoosac School.
Brandon Miller – Brandon graduated from Weddington High School with a 4.29 GPA in 2021 and will
be attending Appalachian State University in the fall. He began playing hockey at Extreme Ice in their
5-Star Program in 2007 and has played with the Jr Checkers, Charlotte Rush, and CMHA Metro teams.
At Weddington, Brandon was a NC Academic Scholar and made the A and AB Honor roll multiple
times. He coaches the 5-Star Program, is an employee at Extreme Ice, and has worked at several
summer hockey camps.
Luke Miller – Luke graduated from Butler High School in 2021 with a 3.55 GPA and aspires to become
a Physician’s Assistant. He will attend Appalachian State University in the fall as a Nursing major.
Luke played hockey for the Jr Checkers, Pineville Falcons, TPH, Team Carolina, and the Charlotte Rush.
He is dedicated to his hockey as he was consistently showing up to the rink at 6am to work on his
conditioning and skills. Luke also found time to work as a lifeguard and to coach in Extreme Ice’s Mite
program.
Abby Reisinger – Abby graduated from Piedmont High School and played hockey for the Jr. Checkers
Metro League, Team Carolina, the Lady Carolina Eagles, and the Lady Jr. Hurricanes. This is her 3 rd
year receiving a scholarship from SkateS2Scholars. Abby attends Alvernia University and was one of
the first members of their DIII program. Abby made the Dean’s List with her 3.33 GPA, was named
UCHC All-Academic Team, Academic All-MAC team, and 2 nd team All-MAC. She was one of Alvernia’s
hockey captains this past season and played on the Varsity Golf team. Abby worked to give back to
the community through her team’s fundraising for breast cancer awareness.
Christian Sokol – Christian graduated from Marvin Ridge High School in 2018 and played hockey for
the Charlotte Rush and Pineville Falcons. 2021 is his fourth SkateS2Scholars scholarship that he has
received. He has a 3.64 GPA at Regent University where he is majoring in human resource
management with a minor in psychology. Christian is President of his club hockey team and Village
Housing Group Leader.
SkateS2Scholars would like to thank everyone one of the hardworking players that applied for
