Where it all begins …

 In News

It’s hard to imagine how difficult kids have it these days; they have a roof over their heads, food in the kitchen, no bills, and if they do have a job it tends to go toward gas and free spending. But, when you think about it, balancing school and sports is not an easy task. Harmonizing 8hr school days, studying and homework, having on-ice and off-ice practice, playing 50-60 games a year, and traveling to multiple cities to do so is quite an accomplishment for any age. Hard work should be recognized and applauded. Kids who play hockey strive to be ahead of the game in all aspects of their life. These guys are resilient and they go with the flow. Most move away from home to stay with a new family, they attend a new school, play on a new team, are trained by new coaches, and travel almost every week all for the same end result … to play the sport they love.

SkateS2Scholars was created after watching these talented and smart young people struggle getting to the point of going to college, hockey players who wanted to continue but just could not afford to do so. Seeing a child work so hard only to become defeated is heartbreaking. Every young person deserves a future, an education, a chance at life to be who they were meant to be. It may be a small start, but S2S wants to begin the movement to making it happen!
